We support the training of eye surgeons and eye care professionals in India at the Sankara Geuder Competence Center (SGCC) in Bangalore. The need for professionally trained ophthalmologists in India is unquestionably high. The regional requirement is estimated to be approximately 25,000 ophthalmologists and more than 20,000 ophthalmology professionals.
Varied training possibilities
The training centre, opened in late 2010, enables ophthalmologists to train in modern eye surgery techniques for common surgical indications using instruments and devices made by Geuder. The training sessions offered at Sankara Eye Hospital, with 225 beds and performing approximately 15,000 eye operations a year, last between two weeks and 18 months. Participation is open to ophthalmologists from India and other countries.
The new training centre is a joint project between the Sankara Eye Hospital in Bangalore and Geuder Asia Pacific (CAP), the subsidiary of Geuder group in Asia. The cooperation partner Sankara Eye Hospital is part of the Sankara Eye Care Institutions, a group of Indian eye clinics that have already received awards for their high quality and providing free ophthalmologic services to poorer classes.
